On Sunday, June 18, 2023, at approximately 4:51 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a sedan and a pedestrian, Griffin Frederick Von Roenn, in the 5200 block of N Capital of Texas HWY. Von Roenn died on scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, was cooperative, and was not impaired.
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 47th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 47 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 53 fatal crashes resulted in 54 deaths.
