New advocacy leaders of Texas Municipal League announced

Txcapitol

Jesse Ancira and Monty Wynn are the new leaders of the Texas Municipal League’s (TML) advocacy efforts as stated in a news release earlier this month.

TML works nearly exclusively on behalf of municipalities and other public sector associations.

Since Jan. 6, Anicra has become the senior legislative adviser while Wynn began serving as director of grassroots and legislative services.

“Jesse's and Monty’s experience at both the state and local levels will provide valuable guidance to the League in the new year,” TML Executive Director Bennett Sandlin said in the news release. “City officials should know that they are well-served in our advocacy efforts at our state capitol.”

Ancira was the chief of staff to both House Speaker Joe Straus from 2012 to 2016 in addition to being mayor of the city of Taylor for four out of six years on the city council. He was also a former Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) special agent and an associate deputy controller and general counsel for the Comptroller of Public Accounts.

A TML official for 13 years, Wynn was the legislative liaison for two Comptrollers of Public Accounts. Aside from that, he worked within Texas Senate and was a former Committee Director for the House Public Education Committee. His career in and around state government has spanned for almost 30 years.

Among TML's highest priorities is the defeat of any legislation that would "impose a revenue and/or tax cap of any type, including a reduced rollback rate, mandatory tax rate ratification elections, lowered rollback petition requirements."

TML is one of the largest lobbying organizations in the state and works nearly exclusively for municipalities and other public organizations.
