Governor Greg Abbott has announced a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop to be held in the City of Fate. The event, organized by the Texas Music Office (TMO) and the city, will take place on February 24, offering both in-person and virtual participation options.
"Music is key to the Texas brand and to our local economies," stated Governor Abbott. He expressed gratitude towards the TMO for aiding communities across Texas in forming creative partnerships and generating new jobs. According to Abbott, with support from the TMO, "the Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide."
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will be present at the workshop to discuss the benefits of obtaining a Music Friendly Texas Community designation and answer any related questions.
The program, introduced by TMO in 2016 as the first of its kind in the nation, provides communities with a network aimed at fostering music industry development. It signals to industry professionals that certified communities are committed to attracting and growing music industry opportunities. The Fate workshop represents an initial step toward certification; upon completion, Fate will join over 70 other cities in Texas that have received this designation.
Musicians, venue operators, and members of the public are invited to attend either physically or online.
