U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, has publicly advocated for Howard Lutnick's nomination as U.S. Secretary of Commerce. Lutnick previously secured bipartisan support in the Commerce Committee with a 16-12 roll call vote.

Senator Cruz highlighted Lutnick's resilience and personal history during his speech on the Senate floor. "Mr. Lutnick has demonstrated great resilience and grit throughout his life," Cruz stated, referencing Lutnick's early personal adversities and experiences on September 11, 2001. On that day, Lutnick lost two-thirds of his staff at Cantor Fitzgerald, including his brother.

Cruz emphasized Lutnick's role in rebuilding Cantor Fitzgerald into an international firm with 13,000 employees across more than 20 countries. He also noted Lutnick's commitment to supporting families affected by 9/11 through the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and his involvement with the National September 11 Memorial.

According to Cruz, "Over the next few years, Mr. Lutnick will lead on key issues vital to the success of America’s economy." These include expanding commercial access to mid-band spectrum and promoting manufacturing resurgence in America.

Lutnick has garnered support from nearly 50 organizations spanning various industries such as agriculture, aviation, broadband, and manufacturing. The Wireless Association praised him for bringing "a fresh, innovative approach" to the Department of Commerce.

Cruz concluded by urging Senate colleagues to back Lutnick's nomination: "It is my hope that...the Senate will follow suit and agree he is the forward-looking leader focused on jobs."
