Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement today regarding President Donald Trump's recent Executive Order, which aims to protect women's sports in the United States. Governor Abbott described the order as a "historic day for female athletes across the country who have worked tirelessly to compete at the highest level."

President Trump's Executive Order prohibits biological men from competing in women's sports, with Governor Abbott expressing his support for this measure. He stated, "President Trump’s Executive Order prohibiting biological men from competing in women’s sports will safeguard the integrity of women’s sports, and I am proud to have joined the President at the White House for this historic signing. Female athletes across the nation can be assured that fairness will be protected."

Governor Abbott has previously taken legislative steps within Texas to address this issue. In 2023, he signed the Save Women’s Sports Act into law, which prevents biological men from competing against female athletes at Texas colleges and universities. Additionally, in 2021, he enacted similar legislation focused on protecting girls’ sports in Texas public schools.
