Governor Greg Abbott has announced the reappointment of Robert “Sean” McCleskey as the Independent Ombudsman for the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). His term will continue until February 1, 2027. The Office of the Independent Ombudsman is tasked with investigating, evaluating, and ensuring the rights of children in TJJD's care.

McCleskey, based in San Antonio, has a diverse background in law enforcement and legal education. He previously served as chief criminal investigator for the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office and worked as a deputy sheriff in the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Intelligence Unit. His career also includes over 16 years with the United States Secret Service as a special agent and task force group leader.

He is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Texas District & County Attorneys Association, Texas Municipal Police Association, State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Police Chiefs Association. In addition to his professional roles, McCleskey has contributed to academia as an adjunct professor at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

His educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Criminal Justice from Texas Christian University and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s School of Law.

This appointment awaits confirmation by the Senate.
