At a Senate Commerce Committee hearing, Sean Duffy, nominated by President-elect Donald Trump for the position of U.S. Secretary of Transportation, received bipartisan praise. Senators acknowledged his qualifications and history in public service.

Chairman Cruz announced that the committee will hold a full markup session to consider Duffy's nomination on January 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Commerce Committee hearing room.

Chairman Cruz highlighted Duffy's experience: "As a father of nine, Congressman Duffy knows better than most the truth of President-elect Trump’s comment on ‘how important it is for families to be able to travel safely, and with peace of mind.’ In the House, Congressman Duffy partnered with members across the aisle to improve transportation in his state."

Cruz also noted Duffy's role in advancing port infrastructure improvements as co-chair of the Great Lakes Task Force and expressed confidence that he would promote an efficient Department of Transportation while ensuring safety.

Senator Tammy Baldwin remarked on Duffy's bipartisan efforts: "It was not a matter of right or left, just what was good for our constituents, our economy, and our state. Today, the St. Croix Crossing... has shortened travel times, reduced traffic congestion, and improved safety." She expressed confidence in his ability to deliver results for Wisconsin families and businesses.

Senator Ron Johnson praised Duffy as a dedicated leader who prioritizes safety and infrastructure investment: "We are fortunate he is willing to serve the public again, and I recommend him to you without reservation."

Senator Dan Sullivan endorsed Duffy as highly qualified: "Mr. Duffy, I believe you are very highly qualified to be the Secretary. I certainly plan on supporting you."

The committee will further deliberate on this nomination during their upcoming session.
