In a Senate Commerce Committee confirmation hearing, Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) expressed his support for Congressman Sean Duffy as the nominee for Secretary of Transportation. During his opening statement, Cruz laid out his agenda for the next two years and emphasized the importance of bipartisanship in addressing shared priorities.

Cruz underscored Duffy's past contributions to improving transportation and stressed the need to reduce regulations at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), invest in infrastructure, and enhance travel safety.

"Good morning. The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation will come to order," began Cruz. He outlined his vision for leading the committee with energy and commitment to moving legislation forward while working collaboratively across party lines.

Cruz welcomed new committee members Senators Curtis, Moreno, Sheehy, Fetterman, Kim, and Blunt Rochester. He expressed eagerness to work with them during this congressional session.

Addressing Duffy's nomination specifically, Cruz remarked on Duffy's qualifications as a public servant. "Congressman Duffy is a dedicated public servant who is well qualified to lead this important department," he stated.

Cruz noted Duffy's efforts in Congress alongside bipartisan colleagues to enhance transportation infrastructure such as funding the St. Croix Crossing project and advancing port improvements through the Great Lakes Task Force.

According to Cruz, Duffy aims to streamline DOT operations by cutting unnecessary regulations while ensuring infrastructure investments are made responsibly. "I strongly support his nomination to this position," Cruz affirmed.

The hearing focused on discussing Duffy's credentials and vision for leading the Department of Transportation under President-elect Trump’s administration.
