U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz have announced the signing into law of the James R. Dominguez Memorial Act, which renames a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Uvalde County after fallen agent James Ray Dominguez. Agent Dominguez lost his life on July 19, 2012, while clearing debris from Highway 90 near Cline, Texas.

"Agent Dominguez was a courageous officer, loving father, and devoted public servant who tragically died while working to protect his fellow Texans," stated Senator Cornyn. He expressed gratitude for the legislation that honors Agent Dominguez's legacy as a respected and selfless community servant.

Senator Cruz added, "Agent Dominguez was a true patriot, a devoted family man, and an exemplary public servant." He emphasized that naming the checkpoint in Uvalde after Dominguez is a fitting tribute to his dedication and courage.

The bill received bipartisan support with cosponsorship from Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin. It passed the Senate last month and was led in the House by Congressman Tony Gonzales, passing on May 21, 2024.

Agent James Ray Dominguez served with the U.S. Border Patrol from 2000 until his death in 2012. On the day of his passing, he stopped to assist a stranded motorist and was struck by a vehicle while clearing debris along Highway 90 West. He was assigned to the Uvalde Station in the Del Rio Sector and is survived by his wife and four children.
