U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, both from Texas, have announced the Senate's approval of the James R. Dominguez Memorial Act. This bill aims to rename the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. Highway 90 West in Uvalde County in honor of James Ray Dominguez, a Texan and Border Patrol agent who died on July 19, 2012.

Agent Dominguez lost his life while assisting a stranded motorist and clearing debris near Cline, Texas. His dedication to service is recognized by this legislative act which now awaits the President's signature to become law.

Senator Cruz stated, “Agent Dominguez was a patriot, a dedicated public servant, and a devoted husband and father. His legacy will continue to inspire the men and women of our Border Patrol to serve with the same selflessness.”

Senator Cornyn remarked, “Agent Dominguez was a courageous officer, loving father, and devoted public servant who tragically died while working to protect his fellow Texans.”

The legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senators Cruz and Cornyn with support from Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin. In the House of Representatives, Representative Tony Gonzales led the effort where it passed earlier this year.

James Ray Dominguez served with distinction at the U.S. Border Patrol’s Uvalde Station in the Del Rio Sector from 2000 until his death in 2012. He is survived by his wife and four children.
