The Media Research Center (MRC) has awarded U.S. Senator Ted Cruz the inaugural Free Speech Award. This recognition is part of MRC's effort to honor individuals who are committed to defending free speech.

Senator Cruz expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, "I am honored to be recognized by the Media Research Center as a champion of free speech. Throughout my tenure in the U.S. Senate, I have fought relentlessly to protect the inalienable rights and freedoms that have made our country the world’s greatest democracy." He emphasized the importance of protecting free speech by quoting former President Ronald Reagan: "Freedom is a fragile thing, and it’s never more than one generation away from extinction."

Cruz highlighted concerns about threats to free speech, saying, "Our first amendment right to freedom of speech is under attack, as radicals on the left try to silence anyone who disagrees with them." He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding these rights by stating, "The path forward requires us to stand firm against those who seek to suppress free speech. I remain committed to fighting our ‘first freedoms.’"

The MRC recognized Senator Cruz among 35 leaders who are actively working to protect free speech. The honorees include members of Congress, government officials, and private citizens united in their dedication to countering efforts that threaten First Amendment rights.
