U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, representing Texas and serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, was recently honored by the city of Laredo. He received the Key to the City for his role in streamlining the presidential permitting process and securing permits for building and expanding four international bridges in South Texas. This includes two bridges located in Laredo.

In an article from Texas Border Business, Cruz's leadership was highlighted as a significant legislative victory that supports international trade and ensures future prosperity for South Texas. During a ceremony in Laredo, Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño presented Cruz with the key to the city. "The City of Laredo hereby presents the key of the City of Laredo to the United States Senator Ted Cruz, Senator from Texas, for supporting the Laredo community with historic legislation that advances international trade and ensures future prosperity," said Mayor Treviño.

Senator Cruz expressed his gratitude at the event, stating: "Mayor, thank you very much. I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive the key to the city—an incredible distinction from an amazing place in Texas. I have to say I love South Texas. I love the city of Laredo. It is an incredible hub of commerce, an incredible port to the entire world."

KGNS News reported on trade talks hosted by Laredo involving Sen. Cruz along with federal and international leaders. The discussions focused on four new bridges in South Texas: two in Laredo, one in Eagle Pass, and one in Brownsville.

Cruz addressed delays related to these projects: "They were delaying those bridges for three, four, five years," he said. "A delegation from the city of Laredo asked me to help, asked me to lead the effort, and I told them I was proud to do so."

He also mentioned how this legislation could benefit various sectors such as agriculture and small businesses across Texas while briefly discussing another bipartisan initiative concerning Interstate Highway 27.
