The City of Navasota has been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO), Governor Greg Abbott announced today. This designation comes after Navasota completed a multi-step certification process, becoming part of a program that aims to boost economic development and job creation through music in Texas cities.

Governor Abbott stated, “Congratulations to the City of Navasota on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation. Music is key to the Texas brand and is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state.” He emphasized that communities certified by TMO play a crucial role in attracting and developing local music industries, contributing significantly to job creation and economic growth across Texas.

Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst also congratulated Navasota, noting its historical ties to music through figures like blues musician 'Mance' Lipscomb and its ongoing contribution to the local economy via music festivals. She remarked, “This designation is a testament to Navasota’s commitment to supporting and promoting its vibrant music scene.”

Representative Kyle Kacal highlighted the significance of this achievement for Navasota's economic growth, saying, “This well-deserved designation is no small feat and highlights the city’s steadfast commitment.”

Mayor Bert Miller expressed excitement about the certification aligning with Navasota's identity as "The Blues Capital of Texas." Jessica Tucker, a committee member and local business owner, shared her pride in supporting local musicians at her establishment.

Kenny Graves, another committee member and radio program director, pointed out that a thriving live music scene will attract visitors and provide more leisure opportunities for residents.

The official certification ceremony will take place on October 19 during the Navasota Blues Music Festival. The event will be co-hosted by TMO along with city officials at Navasota River Halls. Gini Mascorro from TMO will present the designation.

Navasota now joins 66 other communities as part of this initiative by TMO, which was established in 1990 within the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism. The office continues to support economic development related to music across Texas.
