U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Edward J. Markey recently announced that the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act has gained bipartisan support from 60 members of the Senate. The legislation aims to ensure that automakers include AM broadcast radio in new vehicles at no extra cost. In a joint statement, the senators emphasized the importance of AM radio as a crucial tool for millions of listeners, broadcasters, and emergency management officials across the nation. They highlighted the significance of AM radio in providing news, sports, and local updates during emergencies.

The senators stated, "Our commonsense bill makes sure this fundamental, essential tool doesn’t get lost on the dial. With a filibuster-proof supermajority in the Senate, Congress should quickly take it up and pass it."

The bill has also garnered support in the House, with 246 co-sponsors. Sens. Cruz and Markey were joined by a bipartisan group of senators in introducing the legislation, showcasing widespread support for the initiative.

In a show of bipartisan unity, the senators were supported by a diverse group of lawmakers including Sens. Tammy Baldwin, John Barrasso, Marsha Blackburn, Richard Blumenthal, and many others. The broad support for the bill underscores the recognition of the critical role AM radio plays in keeping the public informed, especially in times of crisis.

The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act has been a priority for Sens. Cruz and Markey, with efforts dating back to 2023 when the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee passed the bill.
