WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Commerce Committee Ranking Member Ted Cruz (R-Texas) commended the Senate's recent decision to move forward with the bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. The bill, co-authored by Cruz and Senate Commerce Committee Chairwoman Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), aims to address challenges in the aviation industry and enhance the travel experience for consumers.

Expressing his gratitude for the bipartisan support, Sen. Cruz stated, "Today the Senate in an overwhelming bipartisan show of support voted to proceed to consideration of my bipartisan FAA Reauthorization Act... This bill continues many provisions that I fought for, which will help grow Texas’s thriving aerospace sector."

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 includes several key provisions that are set to benefit Texas and the aviation industry as a whole. These provisions range from airport infrastructure funding to enhancing aviation safety and technological advancements.

One significant provision highlighted by Sen. Cruz is the allocation of $4 billion annually for airport infrastructure projects, which will improve capacity and safety at airports nationwide, including those in Texas. Additionally, the bill includes exemptions to the "perimeter rule," allowing for new direct flights to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, benefiting travelers from San Antonio, among others.

Moreover, the legislation directs the FAA to maximize the hiring of air traffic controllers, addresses staffing issues in key areas like Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, and authorizes the establishment of a Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies to drive innovation in aviation.

Furthermore, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 encompasses reforms that support Texas universities, enhance commercial space activities integration, and improve the operational capabilities of FAA's UAS test range in Texas.
