U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has issued a statement condemning the recent Iranian drone attack that resulted in the death of multiple U.S. soldiers and left dozens injured. Sen. Cruz expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
Speaking about the Biden administration's approach towards Iran, Sen. Cruz criticized their decision to appease the Iranian regime and accused them of enabling the Ayatollah to attack Americans and American interests in the Middle East. He specifically mentioned the suspension of energy sanctions and the turning a blind eye to Iran's nuclear activities as actions that have enriched the Iranian regime.
Sen. Cruz pointed out that in the past few months, there have been over 170 attacks on Americans in the Middle East orchestrated by Iranian-directed proxies. He criticized the Biden administration for limiting their responses to these attacks, contrasting it with the Trump administration's approach of establishing deterrence by eliminating Qasem Soleimani.
"The Trump administration's liquidation of Qasem Soleimani had established deterrence by shattering the regime's confidence and signaling that the U.S. would not distinguish between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its proxies," Sen. Cruz stated. However, he expressed concern that the Biden administration's actions have restored the IRGC's immunity, undermining the hard-won deterrence achieved under the previous administration.
Sen. Cruz directly attributed the Iranian attack to the choices made by President Joe Biden and his officials, stating that these choices directly led to the tragic event. He called for an immediate reversal of these decisions to prevent further attacks on American soldiers and interests.
The senator's statement emphasizes the need for a strong and uncompromising stance against Iran. The Biden administration will need to address the concerns raised by Sen. Cruz and other critics to ensure the safety and security of American personnel in the Middle East.
