Governor Abbott Touts Texas’ Energy, Tech Industries In New Delhi

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas highlighted the state's energy and technology industries during his visit to New Delhi, India. Governor Abbott, along with several other officials including First Lady Cecilia Abbott and Secretary of State Jane Nelson, attended meetings with Indian industry executives to strengthen the economic partnership between Texas and India.

During the meetings, Governor Abbott emphasized the significant investment from India in Texas, stating, "As economic powerhouses set to dominate the future of technology, we share billions in foreign direct investment, with companies from India investing over $1.4 billion in capital through 59 projects creating more than 10,300 jobs in the last decade." This investment showcases the strong economic ties between the two regions and the potential for further growth and collaboration.

The Governor also met with executives from Adani Group, one of India's leading conglomerates. He highlighted Texas' position as a leader in wind-powered generation and utility-scale solar, emphasizing the state's commitment to an all-of-the-above energy strategy. Governor Abbott also praised Texas' business-friendly environment and low taxes, which have attracted companies from around the world to relocate or expand their operations in the state.

In addition, Governor Abbott met with representatives from the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and other leaders from the technology industry in India. They discussed the potential for expanding India's robust technology industry in Texas. The Governor highlighted Texas' global position as a national leader in technology and innovation, pointing to the state's business-friendly climate and highly skilled workforce as major attractions for tech businesses.

The Governor and the Texas delegation also attended a reception hosted by the U.S. Commercial Service in India. Governor Abbott emphasized the interconnectedness of the Texas and Indian economies through trade, highlighting that India was Texas' 11th-largest trading partner in 2022. He also noted that more than 542,000 Indian Americans call Texas home, demonstrating the cultural and economic ties between the two regions.

India is an important economic partner for Texas, ranking ninth among all nations for the number of foreign direct investment projects in the state. In the last decade, companies from India have invested $1.4 billion in capital through 59 projects in Texas, creating over 10,300 jobs. The total trade between Texas and India in 2022 amounted to $20.4 billion, with Texas exports to India totaling $13.3 billion.

The economic development mission led by Governor Abbott aims to strengthen the economic ties between Texas and India and promote Texas as a premier business location. The trip is sponsored and paid for by the Texas Economic Development Corporation, along with the Governor's Economic Development & Tourism Office, as part of Governor Abbott's economic development agenda to build a prosperous future for Texas.
