Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Thomas Gleeson as the Chair of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC). Gleeson, who has been with the PUC for over 15 years, will serve a term that expires on September 1, 2029. The PUC is responsible for regulating the state's electric, water, wastewater, and telecommunications utility industries, as well as resolving consumer complaints.
In a statement, Governor Abbott praised Gleeson's experience and expertise: "Thomas Gleeson’s longtime service at PUC and wealth of knowledge make him the ideal choice for Chair of the Commission. As a seasoned leader with over 15 years of experience at the agency, including serving as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Thomas will help ensure Texans and Texas communities have the utility services they need."
Gleeson, a resident of Pflugerville, has held various roles at the PUC, including Chief Operating Officer, Director of Finance and Administration, and fiscal project manager. He is a graduate of the Governor’s Executive Development Program at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. Gleeson also has experience in local government, having served as the chairman of the City of Pflugerville Finance and Budget Committee.
Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude to Kathleen Jackson, who served as the Interim Chair of the PUC, for her time and dedication. He also expressed his commitment to improving utility services in Texas and building a better state for all Texans.
