WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has called out the Biden administration for their inconsistent statements regarding the security of the southern border. In a speech on the Senate floor, Sen. Cornyn highlighted the contradiction between the administration's longstanding claim that the border is secure and the recent admission by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that 85% of illegal border crossers are being released into the U.S.
Sen. Cornyn referred to a statement made by the White House Press Secretary last May, in which she denied that Customs and Border Protection was allowing mass release of migrants. He pointed out that this statement was proven false by Secretary Mayorkas' admission during his recent visit to Eagle Pass, where he informed Border Patrol agents of the high release rate of illegal migrants.
"There is no way to reconcile these two statements," Sen. Cornyn stated. He emphasized that while Secretary Mayorkas may try to deceive the public in Washington, the frontline personnel, such as Border Patrol agents and law enforcement officials, are well aware of the truth.
Sen. Cornyn accused President Biden, Secretary Mayorkas, and other administration officials of misleading the American people about the reality of catch-and-release policies at the border. He suggested that the administration does not want the public to witness the consequences of these policies, as they anticipate a severe backlash.
The senator's remarks reflect the ongoing debate surrounding the Biden administration's handling of the border crisis. Critics argue that the administration's lax immigration policies have contributed to a surge in illegal border crossings and have overwhelmed border patrol resources. This criticism has intensified in recent weeks as news of the release of thousands of migrants into the U.S. has emerged.
The issue of border security continues to be a contentious topic in national discourse, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle offering differing solutions. As the Biden administration faces mounting pressure to address the situation, the true impact of their policies and the accuracy of their statements regarding the border remain subjects of scrutiny and debate.
