Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Aaron Kinsey as the Chair of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE), succeeding Dr. Keven Ellis. Kinsey's term will expire on December 17, 2025. Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ellis for his service and highlighted his commitment to public education in Texas. Governor Abbott also praised Kinsey's experience and leadership qualities, stating that his previous service in the Air Force and his role as a business leader will be valuable assets to the SBOE.
Aaron Kinsey, currently the SBOE District 15 Representative, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He is the CEO of American Patrols, Inc., an aviation oilfield services company, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 2005 to 2014. During his time in the Air Force, Kinsey flew 120 combat missions in a C-130 and also taught pilot training and instructor pilot courses. In addition to his military background, Kinsey is actively involved in various organizations and committees related to education. He is a member of the Texas Permanent School Fund Corporation Committee on School Finance/Permanent School Fund and serves as the chair of the Committee on Strategic Planning and Policy. Kinsey is also a member of the Texas Public Policy Foundation Liberty Leadership Council and has been involved in community leadership roles.
Governor Abbott expressed confidence in Kinsey's ability to work collaboratively with the SBOE to prepare Texas students for success.
