Governor Greg Abbott has made appointments to the Credit Union Commission, selecting four individuals to serve on the board. Becky Ames has been appointed, while Karyn C. Brownlee and Jim Minge have been reappointed. Additionally, Cody Huggins has been newly appointed to the board.
The Credit Union Commission is responsible for overseeing the Credit Union Department, which regulates all credit unions in the state of Texas. These appointments will serve terms that expire in February 2027 and February 2029.
Becky Ames of Beaumont brings a wealth of experience to the commission. She has served seven terms as Mayor of Beaumont and has a strong background in public sector work. Ames is currently vice president of strategic alliances with Griffith Moseley Johnson & Associates, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University.
Karyn C. Brownlee of Coppell is a contract writer and consultant. She has a background in education, having served as a teacher and leadership team member at Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano. Brownlee is also involved in various volunteer organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and Operation Christmas Child. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University.
Jim Minge of Arlington is the president and CEO of the Texas Trust Credit Union. With a background in accounting, Minge is a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin.
Cody Huggins of Georgetown is a principal at Scout Ventures. He has experience in the venture capital industry, with a focus on InsureTech, FinTech, and PropTech. Huggins has also been involved in various volunteer activities, including Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics. He served six years as an infantry officer in the United States Military Academy at West Point.
These appointments will contribute to the ongoing regulation and supervision of credit unions in Texas. With their diverse backgrounds and expertise, the appointed individuals will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and integrity of the state's credit union system.
