Governor Greg Abbott and First Lady Cecilia Abbott paid tribute to Texas veterans at the Wreaths Across America wreath-laying ceremony at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin. The event, held as part of the annual National Wreaths Across America Day, marked the fifth consecutive year that Governor Abbott has participated in the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude and admiration for the men and women who have served in the armed forces, saying, "Today, we gather to honor those who served our country to ensure the freedoms we enjoy each and every day. To serve your country, and give your life for your fellow citizens, takes courage and selflessness that many in this nation will never know."

The Governor acknowledged his own connection to the military through his brother, Bud, who is a retired Commander in the U.S. Navy. Governor Abbott expressed his pride in his brother's service and the service of countless others like him, stating, "By laying these wreaths, we acknowledge the sacrifice of our veterans, and we honor those who still serve the greatest nation in the history of the world."

In addition to Governor Abbott and First Lady Abbott, the ceremony was attended by Wreaths Across America Chair Missy Roberts, Texas State Cemetery Committee Chair Tom Sellers, and Texas State Cemetery Committee Board Members Jim Bayless and Carolyn Hodges.

During the ceremony, Governor Abbott recognized the efforts of 12-year-old Remmer Machamer from Cedar Park, who has raised over $75,000 for Wreaths Across America. Governor Abbott presented him with a proclamation to commend his dedication and commitment to honoring veterans.

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization that was established in 2007 with the goal of honoring fallen heroes across the nation, collaborating with local veterans organizations, and educating younger generations about the value of the freedoms protected by the U.S. Armed Forces.

The wreath-laying ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by veterans and the importance of honoring their service. Governor Abbott's participation in this event highlights his commitment to recognizing and thanking those who have served our country.
