Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Lone Star College will receive over $1.3 million in Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). These grants will be used by Lone Star College to provide customized training to more than 650 employees of AmeriTex Machine & Fabrication, McCarthy Building Companies Inc., Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, and Tenaris in industries such as construction, energy, healthcare, and machining.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of investing in the workforce through skills development programs as the Texas economy continues to grow. He stated, "These SDF grants to Lone Star College will help equip hardworking Texans in the Greater Houston area with the training they need to continue to thrive and advance in high-demand careers."
The Skills Development Fund is a crucial program that supports the Texas economy by addressing workforce and business needs. TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel highlighted the significance of community partners like Lone Star College in providing programs that reskill and upskill employees to fill critical, in-demand jobs.
The SDF grant program, in collaboration with public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, aims to provide customized and innovative training to businesses of all sizes in Texas. Since its inception in 1996, the program has partnered with over 4,800 employers, resulting in the creation of more than 420,000 jobs throughout the state.
This investment in job training grants will contribute to the continued growth and development of the Texas workforce, ensuring that Texans have the necessary skills to succeed in high-demand industries.
