Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Bobbie Mitchell and reappointed Cathy Skurow to the Commission on State Emergency Communications for terms set to expire on September 1, 2029. The Commission is responsible for administering the state 9-1-1 service program and the statewide poison control program.
Bobbie Mitchell, a Denton County Commissioner, has a strong background in public service. She has previously served as the Mayor and City Council member of Lewisville. Mitchell is also actively involved in various organizations, such as the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Executive Board and the NCTCOG Emergency Preparedness Planning Council. She has served on the Texas Conference of Urban Counties Policy Committee and has been a part of several boards that impact Denton County residents. Mitchell is a graduate of Leadership Lewisville and has completed numerous management training courses. She attended Tarrant County and Cooke County junior colleges.
Cathy Skurow, the Mayor of Portland, brings her expertise as a licensed professional engineer to the Commission. Skurow is a member of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and the American Flood Coalition Advisory Board. She is also a former president and current regional advisory board member of the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center. Skurow holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
These appointments by Governor Abbott ensure that the Commission on State Emergency Communications will continue to have experienced and dedicated individuals guiding the state's emergency response efforts.
