Governor Abbott to Appoint Alley as Chief Justice of Eighth Court of Appeals

Governor Greg Abbott has announced that he will appoint Jeff Alley as the Chief Justice of the Eighth Court of Appeals. Alley, who is currently an attorney at James F. Scherr PC, previously served on the Eighth Court of Appeals from October 2019 to December 2022. During his time on the court, he also served as Chief Justice from October 2019 to December 2020.

Alley brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has been in private practice for 30 years and is board certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the El Paso Bar Association, and the Pioneer Association of El Paso. Alley has also served as president and board member of the Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council and as a member of the Jaycees.

In addition to his legal career, Alley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Texas Tech University and a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law.

Governor Abbott's appointment of Alley as Chief Justice of the Eighth Court of Appeals is set to expire on December 31, 2024, or until his successor is elected and qualified.

This appointment reflects Governor Abbott's commitment to selecting qualified and experienced individuals to serve in key positions within the Texas judiciary.
