Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Rowlett has been designated as a Film Friendly Texas Community by the Texas Film Commission. This designation means that Rowlett has completed the training and certification process and is now prepared to support and accommodate on-location filming activity.

The Film Friendly Texas program is aimed at promoting Texas as a premier destination for film, television, and other media productions. It provides communities with the knowledge and tools needed to attract and support production companies, creating jobs for local crew members and stimulating local economic development.

Governor Abbott congratulated the City of Rowlett on earning this designation, stating, "Texas is brimming with promise, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside all of our communities to ensure they have the knowledge and tools needed to succeed." He also thanked the Texas Film Commission for their support in helping communities like Rowlett market their unique appeal and support local job creation through media production.

Mayor Blake Margolis of Rowlett expressed excitement about the designation, stating, "Becoming a part of the Film Friendly Texas program is a strategic move for Rowlett. It's an opportunity to showcase our city to a wider audience and to stimulate local economic development." He added that the certification highlights Rowlett's unique landscapes and community spirit, positioning the city as a prime location for film productions.

Rowlett now joins over 175 Film Friendly Texas Communities from across the state that receive ongoing training and guidance from the Texas Film Commission. These communities are equipped with the knowledge and best practices to effectively accommodate on-location filming activity and support the needs of production companies.

The Texas Film Commission, operating under the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism, has been instrumental in attracting more than $2 billion in local spending and creating over 183,000 production jobs across the state from 2007 to 2023.
