Governor Greg Abbott praised the bravery and dedication of the newest graduates of the Texas Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Recruit Class B-2023 during a graduation ceremony in Austin. The 94 troopers completed a rigorous 30-week training program and will now join the ranks of the state's most elite law enforcement agency.
In his keynote address, Governor Abbott expressed his gratitude to the troopers for answering the call to serve and protect their fellow Texans. He emphasized the important role that DPS troopers play in safeguarding the state and commended them for their commitment and bravery. The Governor also acknowledged the diverse backgrounds and skills of the graduating class, which includes 30 military veterans, 15 women, 10 individuals with prior law enforcement experience, and 41 who speak more than one language. The graduates of Class B-2023 will soon be assigned to their individual duty stations, where they will begin their careers as DPS troopers on December 10, 2023. Their training and preparation have equipped them to handle the challenges and responsibilities that come with the job.
The graduation ceremony was attended by several state and law enforcement officials, including DPS Director Steve McCraw, Texas Public Safety Commission Chairman Steven P. Mach, Texas Public Safety Commissioner Nelda Blair, DPS Chief James Thomas, and other dignitaries.
