Construction on a project designed to reduce crashes along West Gate Boulevard at South Lamar Boulevard is set to begin next Monday, October 30.
The Austin Transportation and Public Works Department’s Vision Zero team has identified the area as a high-crash intersection.Planned improvements include:
Enhanced sidewalk corners to lower vehicular turning speeds and reduce pedestrian crossing distance
Raised concrete curb median for safer traffic flow, pedestrian refuge and less turning conflicts into shopping center destinations
Improved signage and striping to allow for better visibility of lane designations
This project is funded by the 2020 Mobility Bond. Construction is expected to last for three months.
