Governor Greg Abbott has announced that a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant of over $310,000 has been awarded to the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will support career and technical education (CTE) training programs in the district, specifically in the field of welding.

The JET grant will enable the Uvalde CISD to purchase and install equipment necessary for training students as welders. The initial phase will focus on training 100 students in partnership with Southwest Texas Junior College.

Governor Abbott expressed his appreciation for the grant, stating, "Texas remains the Best State for Business thanks to our continued investment in growing a highly skilled and dynamic workforce. This JET grant will help equip Southwest Texas students with the skills and experience they need to thrive in high-demand welding careers."

TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel also highlighted the significance of the grant, emphasizing the importance of community partnerships and workforce development. He stated, "Investments in community partnerships to train the next generation of workers in Texas will support the needs of employers and create long-term career opportunities for individuals."

The grant was presented during a ceremony at the Uvalde CISD School Board meeting, attended by state and local officials, as well as school staff.

The JET grant program, funded by the Texas Legislature, aims to develop career and technical education programs for various educational institutions. The equipment purchased through JET grants is specifically intended to train students for high-demand occupations.

This grant will undoubtedly benefit the Uvalde CISD and its students by providing them with the necessary resources to pursue careers in welding. It is another example of the state's commitment to investing in its workforce and creating economic opportunities for Texans.
