The City of Austin's Active Transportation and Street Design program is accepting applications from property owners and managers to install free bike parking within public rights of way.
According to the Austin’s Transportation Department, property owners and managers can choose from U-racks, which can be installed onto existing concrete within the right of way and provides parking for up to two bicycles, or bike corrals that repurpose a vehicle parallel parking spot with an on-street bicycle parking facility and can accommodate six to 14 bicycles. Installing bike parking on the street can free up valuable sidewalk space and enhances the visibility and attractiveness of nearby storefronts.
Applications can be found online at the City's Bicycle Parking Program page.
Requests will be evaluated by City of Austin staff and approval will be based upon available right of way space, bicycle parking demand, and availability of nearby bicycle parking. Upon approval, the bicycle parking will be installed in the public right of way at no cost to the business or property owner.
