Sen. Ted Cruz (R.) has announced his plans to fight human trafficking in Texas.
“It is shameful that we're living on planet Earth at a time when millions are trapped in slavery,” Cruz said at his news conference earlier this month. “It is heartbreaking that Texas is a central locus of human trafficking.”
Cruz reiterated his support for two bills against human trafficking crimes that he co-sponsored, the Visa Transparency Anti-Trafficking Act with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act also signed by President Trump. Both pieces of legislation were filed with the 115th Congress.
He stated that The University of Texas has concluded that more than 300,000 human trafficking victims are in Texas.
Cruz also praised organizations involved in the ‘Can you see me?' campaign aimed at ending state human trafficking crimes, including A21, Clear Channel and the Outdoor Advertising Association of Texas.
“There are people who will commit horrific acts of evil,” Cruz said. “But while there is evil, there is also good. And as the community and as the state of Texas say, good will stand up to evil and we will not permit this atrocity to continue in the state of Texas.”
