U.S. Commerce Committee approves 15 bills and two key nominations

Today, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation gave its approval to 15 bills and two nominations. Olivia Trusty has been nominated to become a Member of the Federal Communications Commission, and Jared Isaacman is nominated to serve as the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Additionally, the Committee moved forward with the promotion of a Coast Guardsman. The legislation approved by the Committee spans various areas within its jurisdiction, including weather forecasting, scientific research, space exploration, telecommunications, and consumer protection.

During the Executive Session, the following items were passed by roll call vote:

– The nomination of Olivia Trusty to be a Member of the Federal Communications Commission was approved with 21 yeas and 7 nays.
– The nomination of Jared Isaacman as the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration received 19 yeas and 9 nays.
– S. 29, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025, as amended by Cruz 1 (Scott-FL, Murray), received 16 yeas and 12 nays. It was noted that though the bill received a majority, a revote may be required to comply with Senate rules on in-person attendance.

– S. 725, Enhancing First Response Act, as amended by the Klobuchar-Blackburn substitute (Klobuchar, Blackburn)
– S. 769, United States Research Protection Act of 2025 (Cornyn, Padilla)
– S. 1003, Lulu’s Law (Britt, Schatz)
– S. 1081, Comprehensive NASA Reporting Act of 2025, as amended by Cantwell 1, as modified (Cruz, Duckworth)
– S. 1278, Fog Observations and Geographic Forecasting Act (Cruz, Padilla)
– S. 1378, TAME Extreme Weather and Wildfires Act, as amended by the Schatz substitute, as modified (Schatz, Sheehy)
– S. 1433, Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative Reauthorization Act of 2025, as amended by the Cantwell substitute, as amended by Cruz 1, as amended by Cantwell 1 to Cruz 1 (Murray)
– S. 1437, ASCEND Act, as amended by the Hickenlooper substitute, as modified (Hickenlooper, Cornyn)
– S. 1492, Deploying American Blockchains Act of 2025 (Moreno, Blunt Rochester)

The Committee also approved the promotion of John O. Mansolillo within the Coast Guard.
