Governor Greg Abbott has announced a grant of $3,080,000 from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings, Inc. (TEL U.S.). The funding will support TEL U.S.’s technical training and research and development center in Austin, with an expected capital investment exceeding $30 million.
“Texas is where the technologies of tomorrow are developed today,” stated Governor Abbott. He emphasized that Tokyo Electron’s significant investment strengthens Texas’s position in the semiconductor industry and enhances job training opportunities for Texans.
TEL U.S., a subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Limited, specializes in semiconductor production equipment. The new facility aims to train approximately 2,200 individuals annually using advanced virtual reality and augmented reality methods. It will also focus on developing next-generation software and processes for the semiconductor sector.
Rick Turner, Executive VP, CFO & GM of Tokyo Electron U.S., expressed gratitude for the funding: “This grant is a testament to the State of Texas’ commitment to leading the production of domestic semiconductor technology.”
Senator Judith Zaffirini remarked on the importance of such investments: “Investments in semiconductor innovation are investments in Texas’ future.” She highlighted that this initiative supports economic growth in Senate District 21 and Central Texas.
The TSIF was established under the Texas CHIPS Act signed by Governor Abbott in 2023. The act encourages leadership in semiconductor research and manufacturing through incentive programs administered by the Texas CHIPS Office within the Governor’s Economic Development & Tourism Office.
