Texas Women’s Tennis advanced to the Southeastern Conference Championship quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over Alabama on April 16 at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The fifth-seeded Longhorns, ranked No. 8 nationally, will next face top-seeded Georgia on Friday at 6 p.m. Central Time.

The match saw Texas secure the doubles point after victories at positions three and one, despite an early loss at position two. In singles play, sophomore Carmen Herea earned a quick win over Klara Milicevic at No. 1 singles, followed by wins from Eszter Meri and freshman Anastasia Abbagnato to clinch the overall victory for Texas.

The Longhorns played without freshman Christasha McNeil due to injury, resulting in changes to their doubles lineup. Salma Drugdova and Meri teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles while Abbagnato and Elizabeth Ionescu secured the deciding point with a close victory at No. 1 doubles.

In singles matches that remained unfinished when Texas clinched the team victory, Mathilde Ngijol-Carré and Kate Mansfield both held set leads in their respective contests against Alabama opponents. The only set of the night won by Alabama came at No. 4 singles before play was stopped.

With this result, Texas moves forward in pursuit of an SEC title and prepares for its upcoming match against Georgia.
