The Texas Women’s Basketball team secured a place in the NCAA Final Four after defeating Michigan 77-41 on March 30 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. This victory marks the fifth time the program has reached the Final Four.
The game saw strong performances from several players. Madison Booker led with 19 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. Justice Carlton added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kyla Oldacre recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Breya Cunningham contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.
Texas started with nine consecutive successful field goals during the first seven minutes of play, leading to a significant early advantage. The Longhorns ended the first quarter ahead by thirteen points and limited Michigan to just nine points in that period—the tenth time this season they have held an opponent under ten in an opening quarter.
Booker scored fifteen of her nineteen total points in the first half as Texas built a halftime lead of thirteen. In the fourth quarter, Texas opened with a fourteen-point run and finished with advantages both in paint scoring (36-18) and rebounding (49-32).
Head coach Vic Schaefer is now among only twelve coaches who have reached four or more Final Fours, joining names such as Geno Auriemma and Pat Summitt. Schaefer is also noted as being one of five active coaches to achieve this milestone multiple times across different teams—Mississippi State previously in 2017 and 2018, now Texas for two consecutive years.
The Longhorns set several records during this stretch: they achieved their best three-year win total at 103 victories since the start of last season; Rori Harmon’s career wins tie for second-most all-time at Texas; Booker surpassed Beverly Williams for second-most career NCAA Tournament points at Texas; and their sixteen wins over ranked opponents lead all programs nationally this season.
Looking ahead, Texas will face UCLA on April 3 in Phoenix for a chance to advance further into championship contention.
