The University of Texas at Austin boosted football team spending to $61,775,571 during 2024, reflecting a 5.2% increase over the prior year, the U.S. Department of Education reports.

Football expenses accounted for 26% of the school’s overall athletic budget in 2024, totaling $61,775,571.

The university’s average sports spending since 2010 has risen 108.4%.

College football ranks among the nation’s most popular sports, and some teams surpass NFL franchises in attendance and revenue.

College athletics adopted a new era of player compensation after a federal settlement enabled schools to directly share revenue with athletes for the first time. The agreement also directs the NCAA to pay $2.8 billion in back damages over 10 years to athletes competing from 2016 onward.

In 2022, after extended legal action and legislative changes, athletes acquired the right to earn money from their names, images and likenesses through new state laws and NCAA policy shifts.
