Texas Softball defeated Ole Miss, 15-3, in five innings on March 15 at McCombs Field, securing a series sweep and tying the program record for consecutive wins at 24. The Longhorns now hold a 26-1 overall record, remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0, and are unbeaten at home with a 15-0 mark.
The victory marks Texas’ second sweep of a Southeastern Conference opponent this season, having previously swept No. 24 South Carolina on the road and now Ole Miss at home. The team has achieved run-rule victories in two out of three games against Ole Miss and has notched run-rule wins in 14 games this season.
Junior right-handed pitcher Teagan Kavan improved her record to 11-0 after pitching her eighth complete game of the year. Kavan limited Ole Miss to three runs on eight hits while striking out three batters and walking two. She allowed only one extra-base hit—a double—and retired ten straight batters after giving up two early runs.
Offensively, Texas collected twelve hits compared to eight by Ole Miss. Thirteen different Longhorns reached base during the game, with nine recording at least one hit. Junior center fielder Kayden Henry led the offense with three runs batted in and three runs scored, going one-for-two with two stolen bases, a double, and a walk. Other notable performances included junior first baseman Katie Stewart’s two hits and two RBIs; senior left fielder Kaiah Altmeyer’s two-RBI single; junior shortstop Viviana Martinez’s two-RBI single; sophomore pinch hitter Taylor Anderson’s two-RBI single; senior second baseman Leighann Goode’s multi-hit effort with two doubles; and freshman third baseman Jaycie Nichols’ perfect day at the plate.
Ole Miss took an early lead in the first inning before Texas responded with six runs in the second inning and eight more in the third to secure their commanding advantage. The Longhorns will enter their SEC bye week before hosting Baylor on Friday, March 20 at McCombs Field. They will then travel to Waco for another matchup against Baylor on Saturday, March 21.
