Governor Greg Abbott has instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to mobilize state emergency resources in anticipation of a tropical weather system expected to impact East and Southeast Texas. The weather event, predicted to bring heavy rain starting tonight, has prompted swift action from the state.

“As this tropical system approaches our state, Texas is taking swift action to prepare and respond,” said Governor Abbott. “The State of Texas stands ready to deploy all resources needed to protect Texans and support our communities as they brace for potential severe weather. Texans are urged to remain weather-aware and heed the guidance of local officials.”

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a storm system that could affect the northern Gulf Coast over the coming days, posing a heavy rain threat for East and Southeast Texas, as well as rip current risks along the coast. Severe storms with flooding potential are anticipated across the Panhandle region through week’s end. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts.

In response, several state emergency resources have been made available:

– The State of Texas Incident Management Team will assist with regional emergency operations.
– Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads from Texas A&M Task Force 1 will aid in flood rescues.
– Strike Teams from the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System will support local fire departments.
– Severe Weather Support Packages including medics and ambulances are prepared by the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force.
– High profile vehicles from the Texas National Guard will help stranded motorists.
– Road conditions will be monitored by personnel from the Texas Department of Transportation.
– Game Wardens, rescue boat teams, and helicopters from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will assist in flood rescues.
– Helicopters with hoist capabilities, troopers, and marine units from the Department of Public Safety are on standby.
– Disaster Assessment Agents from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will address agricultural needs.
– Power outages will be monitored by the Public Utility Commission of Texas in coordination with utility providers.
– The Railroad Commission of Texas is overseeing natural gas supply communications with oil industries.
– Environmental monitoring is being conducted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

These measures come as recovery efforts continue following recent flooding across various parts of Texas.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels, follow instructions from authorities, create an emergency plan, and assemble an emergency kit. Tropical weather safety information can be accessed at websites like TexasReady.gov and others mentioned in official advisories.
