The Texas Men’s Golf team finished in third place at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, held at Floridian National Golf Club, after posting a final-round team score of 14-under 270 on Tuesday, Mar. 24. Senior Luke Potter led the Longhorns with a final round of 4-under 67 and tied for tenth individually with a total score of 10-under par.

The tournament featured an elite field with four teams ranked in the top ten and nine teams from the top twenty-five in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. The strong performance by Texas highlights their competitiveness among some of the nation’s best collegiate golf programs.

No. 11 Texas Tech won the event with a three-round total of 45-under par (807), while No. 2 Auburn took second at 39-under (813). Texas secured third place at 34-under (818), narrowly edging out No. 6 Arkansas by one stroke. The Longhorns’ lineup included notable performances from sophomore Daniel Bennett and graduate Matt Comegys, who both carded rounds of three or more under par to contribute to the team’s overall result.

Individually, Ryder Cowan from Oklahoma and Tyler Weaver from Florida State both finished regulation play tied at fifteen under par, but Weaver claimed medalist honors after winning a playoff hole. Four golfers shared third place individually at thirteen under par.

Looking ahead, Texas will compete next in The Ford Collegiate on April 13-14 in Richmond Hill, Georgia—their last regular-season event before entering postseason play at the SEC Championship later that month.
