The Texas men’s golf team lost to Florida, 3.5-1.5, in the Southeastern Conference Championship semifinals on April 25 at Sea Island Golf Club.

The result ends Texas’ run in the tournament after advancing past Mississippi State earlier that day. The match was closely contested, with Texas earning its only full point from senior Christiaan Maas, who won his match against Luke Poulter by a margin of 4&3. Graduate Matt Comegys secured a half-point for Texas by tying his match with Matthew Kress after winning the final hole.

In the morning quarterfinals against Mississippi State, Texas recorded victories in three matches to win 3.5-1.5 and advance to face Florida. Senior Luke Potter and graduate Matt Comegys both delivered strong performances, while sophomore Daniel Bennett clinched the overall victory for Texas.

During the semifinal round against Florida, sophomore Daniel Bennett lost to Zack Swanwick after being all-square through seven holes before Swanwick pulled ahead on hole eight and extended his lead later in the round. Senior Luke Potter fell to Parker Sands despite keeping pace early on; Sands took control mid-round and closed out his win on hole fifteen. Senior Tommy Morrison was defeated by Jack Turner after initially leading but falling behind as Turner gained momentum through the middle holes.

Texas will now await its next postseason assignment during the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Selection Show scheduled for May 6.
