The University of Texas Men’s Golf team was named the No. 1 seed for the NCAA Bryan Regional, according to a May 6 announcement by the NCAA and Golf Channel during their Selection Show. The regional tournament will take place at Traditions Club from May 18 through May 20, featuring fourteen teams and five individual competitors.
The outcome of this event is significant because the top five teams and the lowest-scoring individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for late May at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California. This provides an opportunity for Texas to extend its record streak of consecutive championship appearances.
The field at Bryan includes seeded teams such as North Carolina, Tennessee, New Mexico, Texas A&M, TCU, UNCW, UNLV, Colorado, Cincinnati, Chattanooga, Miami Ohio, UTRGV and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Pairings and tee times are expected to be announced later.
A total of eighty-one teams and forty-five individuals will compete across six regional sites nationwide. Three regionals will host thirteen teams each while three others—including Bryan—will feature fourteen squads. Texas enters with eighteen straight NCAA Championship appearances—the longest current streak in Division I men’s golf—and has previously won national titles in 1971, 1972, 2012 and most recently in 2022.
This season alone Texas has claimed three team titles out of twelve stroke-play events along with nine top-three finishes. Their spring campaign included a combined team score of two hundred thirty-one under par over seven tournaments—a stretch highlighted by strong performances at events like the Arizona N.I.T., Amer Ari Invitational and The Ford Collegiate.
