The Texas Longhorns, together with Truist, announced on March 31 the selection of Ki Rendon from Women’s Track & Field and Hudson Bennett from Men’s Track & Field as Hook ‘Em’s Community Heroes for March.
The recognition highlights student-athletes who use their platforms to support important causes in their communities. This month’s honorees focus on expanding access to healthy foods and supporting victims of domestic abuse.
Rendon said she is dedicated to eliminating food deserts and making healthy food options available to everyone. “I am passionate about addressing food deserts and expanding access to healthy, nutritious foods in all communities, regardless of income or zip code. I believe access to fresh food is a necessity, not a privilege. Access to nutritious options not only fights hunger, but also empowers healthier, more stable lifestyles. Through community advocacy and service, I am committed to advancing food access equity and creating healthier communities for all,” Rendon said.
Bennett explained his commitment to helping those affected by domestic abuse. “I would like to support domestic abuse support organizations because I believe no one should feel unsafe, unwanted, or unloved in their own home. Helping this cause means more individuals are provided with the support that everyone should receive,” Bennett said.
To honor these efforts, Truist will donate $500 each to organizations that address food insecurity and provide support for victims of domestic abuse. More information about Hook ‘Em’s Community Heroes can be found at texaslonghorns.com/TruistCares.
