The Texas Longhorns baseball team will play against the University of Houston on March 24 at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park, following a successful road series win over Auburn. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be available on ESPN+ and AM-1300 The Zone radio.
This matchup comes as Texas holds a strong all-time record against Houston, leading the series 99-34-2. The Longhorns have won nine of their last twelve meetings with the Cougars, including five of the past seven games. Houston head coach Todd Whitting previously worked under Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle for seven seasons at TCU, where they compiled a notable record and achieved several postseason milestones.
Texas enters this game ranked No. 2 nationally by all five major outlets, trailing only UCLA. In the Southeastern Conference preseason poll voted on by league coaches, Texas was picked second behind LSU and received one of four first-place votes alongside LSU, Mississippi State, and Arkansas.
The Longhorns recently took two out of three games from No. 5 Auburn, marking their first road series win over a top-five team since May 2021. After losing the opener in walk-off fashion, Texas rebounded with victories in the next two games—including a shutout that marked their first ever in Southeastern Conference play.
Statistically, Texas has started strong this season with a 20-3 record—only the third time they’ve done so in the past twenty-one years—and has outscored opponents by more than two-to-one (205 to 69). Their pitching staff ranks third nationally in earned run average (2.72) and seventh in WHIP (1.12), while their fielding percentage (.985) is sixth-best among Division I teams.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s probable pitching matchup: Jason Flores will start for Texas while Caleb Kimble takes the mound for Houston.
