The Texas Longhorns baseball team achieved their first-ever shutout in Southeastern Conference play by defeating the Auburn Tigers 5-0 at Plainsman Park on March 22.
This victory is significant as it marks Texas’ first road series win over a top-5 ranked opponent in five years. The Longhorns, now holding a record of 20-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play, limited No. 5 Auburn to just four hits throughout the game.
Sophomore pitcher Dylan Volantis started for Texas, delivering four scoreless innings and striking out four batters. He ended the second inning with a key strikeout that left two Auburn runners stranded. Freshman Sam Cozart continued the strong pitching performance by throwing nearly three hitless innings and recording three strikeouts while retiring six of his first seven batters faced.
Ethan Walker, Brett Crossland, and Max Grubbs finished the game for Texas, combining to secure the final eight outs without allowing any runs from Auburn. On offense, Casey Borba gave Texas an early lead with a two-run home run in the second inning—his seventh homer in eleven games. Carson Tinney added to the lead with a two-out single that drove in two more runs during the fourth inning. The Longhorns scored their fifth run one inning later after loading the bases.
Texas will continue its road trip with a game against Houston scheduled for Tuesday evening at Schroeder Park.
