The Texas Longhorns defeated Missouri 12-7 in their regular season finale at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on May 16. With this victory, the Longhorns completed a sweep and achieved back-to-back 40-win regular seasons for the first time since 2010-11.
The win holds significance as it demonstrates the team’s consistency and strength leading into postseason play. All ten Texas position players who appeared reached base safely during the game, with a six-run fourth inning and a four-run eighth inning fueling their offense.
Carson Tinney and Anthony Pack Jr. were key contributors, combining for six hits and five runs batted in. Both players reached base five times each. Over the three-game series against Missouri, Tinney posted a .538 batting average, three home runs, ten runs batted in, and an OPS of 1.933.
In the pivotal fourth inning, Texas sent eleven batters to the plate and collected five hits. Pack Jr.’s run-scoring single gave Texas a lead before Tinney followed with a ground-rule double that added to their advantage. Adrian Rodriguez produced an RBI ground out, Temo Becerra hit an RBI single on his first pitch from Eli Skidmore, and Josh Livingston capped off the frame with a two-RBI double.
Missouri narrowed the gap by scoring five times in the top of the eighth but Texas responded with four runs of their own in that same inning. Reliever Cal Higgins earned his first win for Texas after pitching two innings with three strikeouts while allowing one run.
Before Saturday’s game, seniors Temo Becerra, Cal Higgins, Josh Livingston, Jayden Duplantier, Max Grubbs, Dariyan Pendergrass, Connor McCreery, Ruger Riojas and Ethan Walker were honored alongside student-manager Estevan Flores during Senior Day ceremonies.
Looking ahead to postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the SEC Baseball Tournament, Texas will face Arkansas (seventh seed), Tennessee (tenth seed), or South Carolina (fifteenth seed) at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
