The Texas Longhorns men’s baseball team defeated Incarnate Word 16-4 at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Apr. 7. The game ended in a run-rule victory after seven innings, marking the Longhorns’ eighth such win this season.
The result highlights the team’s strong performance, as Texas scored in five of its six turns at bat and recorded two six-run innings. All nine starting position players reached base safely during the game.
Ethan Mendoza, Carson Tinney, and Temo Becerra each had multiple hits for Texas. Tinney hit his fourth home run in his last ten at-bats with a 431-foot shot to center field and finished with four runs scored and two walks. He also matched his co-team-best with an eleventh home run later in the game. Mendoza contributed a career-high eighth home run with a 388-foot drive over left field.
Pitching duties were shared among five players for Texas. Hudson Hamilton earned the win by throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, striking out three of seven batters faced. Ethan Walker, Max Grubbs, and Brody Walls combined to retire seven of the final eight Cardinals hitters.
The Longhorns will next play against No. 18 Texas A&M in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown at Blue Bell Park, beginning Friday evening.
