The Texas Longhorns lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks, 8-1, in the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium on May 22.

This result means Texas will not advance to the semifinals of the tournament. The loss is significant as it was only Texas’s second game ever in the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

Arkansas took control early, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Camden Kozeal hit a two-run home run after a leadoff hit-by-pitch and later added a three-run shot, finishing with five runs batted in and reaching base four times. Nolan Souza contributed with a two-out single that drove in another run for Arkansas.

Texas managed one run in response during its half of the first inning but could not close the gap. The Razorbacks added two more runs in the fifth inning to secure their victory. Gabe Gaeckle earned his fourth win of the season for Arkansas by striking out nine batters over six scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just three hits and one walk on 76 pitches. Cody Howard started for Texas and took his first loss of the year after pitching two innings.

The Longhorns used eight pitchers throughout the game, with their bullpen giving up only two runs over seven innings following Howard’s start.

Looking ahead, Texas will await its postseason fate during the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament selection show scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
