The Texas Longhorns baseball team defeated Auburn 7-6 on March 21, evening their series in front of a record crowd of 8,037 at Plainsman Park.
The win is significant for Texas as it marks their first road victory over a top-five opponent in the regular season since May 2021. The Longhorns improved their record to 19-3 overall and 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference, while Auburn fell to 19-3 and 4-1 in conference play.
Texas built an early six-run lead, highlighted by home runs from Aiden Robbins and Jayden Duplantier. Robbins hit his third home run in five at-bats with a solo shot to start the third inning. Later that inning, Duplantier hit his first career home run—a three-run blast—after a two-out rally. Designated hitter Maddox Monsour contributed with a two-run single earlier and finished with three hits in his first career SEC start.
Auburn responded by scoring on consecutive ground outs in the fourth inning and mounted a late comeback attempt, scoring three runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth to narrow the gap to one run. In the ninth inning, Texas closer Thomas Burns ended Auburn’s threat by inducing a ground out with the bases loaded, snapping Auburn’s twelve-game winning streak.
Starter Luke Harrison pitched five and two-thirds innings for Texas, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out six batters before turning things over to the bullpen. Catcher Carson Tinney added an RBI double in the sixth inning that proved crucial for Texas’ victory.
Texas will aim to secure the series win when they face Auburn again on Sunday at Plainsman Park.
