Governor Greg Abbott expressed his approval of the Texas Legislature’s decision to pass House Bill 2, which aims to significantly increase public education funding in the state.

“This critical school finance legislation is the largest public education funding increase in Texas history,” stated Governor Abbott. “House Bill 2 adds $8.5 billion to raise teacher and staff pay, keep our schools safe, expand career training programs for our students, and fund other public school needs—putting Texas on the pathway to be the best state in the nation for education.” He acknowledged Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dustin Burrows, Chairman Brandon Creighton, and Chairman Brad Buckley for their roles in advancing this legislation.

Governor Abbott has indicated that he will sign House Bill 2 into law promptly. He emphasized that with empowered parents, exemplary teachers, and exceptional academics, Texas aims to lead in educating children.

Earlier this year during his State of the State Address for 2025, Governor Abbott highlighted teacher pay raises and career training as emergency items for this legislative session.
