Sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis led the Texas Longhorns with 21 points, but the team was defeated by No. 20/19 Arkansas, 105-85, on Wednesday night at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. With this loss, Texas moves to an overall record of 18-12 and a Southeastern Conference (SEC) record of 9-8. Arkansas improves to 22-8 overall and 12-5 in SEC play.
Texas struggled defensively, allowing season highs for an opponent in total points (105), field goals made (35 out of 60 attempts), and three-point shooting percentage (57.9%, with Arkansas hitting 11 out of 19). The Longhorns also recorded their lowest free throw percentage of the season at just under 52% from the line.
Vokietaitis converted nine of his fifteen field goal attempts and added seven rebounds, two assists, and one block over twenty-four minutes on the court. Graduate Tramon Mark contributed eighteen points while making six out of twelve shots from the field and added three assists without committing a turnover during his twenty-eight minutes. Junior Dailyn Swain scored sixteen points, grabbed nine rebounds, and dished out six assists across thirty-four minutes.
Sophomore Nic Codie had a season-high eleven points along with seven rebounds in a career-best twenty-seven minutes played. Senior Chendall Weaver also reached double figures with eleven points and collected four rebounds.
Arkansas established control early after a thirteen-point run gave them a commanding lead midway through the first half. Although Texas managed several short runs to reduce the deficit—most notably cutting it to ten late in the first half—Arkansas closed strongly before halftime to lead by twenty-two at intermission.
The Razorbacks continued their strong offensive performance into the second half, building their advantage to as much as twenty-eight points before Texas cut it back down to fifteen late in regulation.
Texas will finish its regular season schedule by hosting Oklahoma on Saturday, March 7 at Moody Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Central Time with national television coverage provided by SEC Network.
